Climate Data: A Sectoral Perspective

Kevin Baumert
World Resources Institute

Kevin Baumert is a Senior Associate at the World Resources Institute’s Climate and Energy, and Pollution Program. His research focuses on the Kyoto Protocol and climate change policy instruments. Since joining WRI in 1998, Mr. Baumert has authored numerous WRI reports and professional journal articles.  He was lead editor of "Building on the Kyoto Protocol: Options for Protecting the Climate," published in 2002, and is presently the project manager for the Climate Analysis Indicators Tool (CAIT) work.  Prior to joining WRI, he received a B.A. in Economics from the University of Notre Dame and a Masters degree from Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs.

Timothy Herzog
World Resources Institute

Timothy Herzog is a Climate Policy Analyst at the World Resources Institute.  Along with other responsibilities, he is working on the ongoing development of WRI's Climate Analysis Indicators Tools (CAIT).  His work on CAIT centers on the development of new data sets, technologies, and analytical approaches.  Other recent work has included the use of regression analysis to study the correlation between natural factors and greenhouse gas emissions, and the use of decomposition analysis to study changes in emissions over time.  Mr. Herzog holds a B.S. from Bethel College in Minnesota, and a M.P.P. from the Georgetown Public Policy Institute.

Jonathan Pershing
World Resources Institute

Jonathan Pershing is the Director of the Climate, Energy and Pollution Program at the World Resources Institute in Washington, D.C.  Before joining WRI, he was Head of the Energy and Environment Division at the International Energy Agency in Paris.  He coordinated all IEA work on energy-related environmental issues and served as the IEA representative to the UN climate negotiations and the UN Sustainable Development sessions.  Prior to his IEA tenure, Dr. Pershing served in the U.S. Department of State, where he was both Deputy Director and Science Advisor for the Office of Global Change.  He was a U.S. negotiator for the 1992 UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and its 1997 Kyoto Protocol.  From 1981-1985, he worked in Alaska for ARCO Exploration Company as an oil geologist, and for a small mining company exploring for gold, silver, platinum and base metals.  Dr. Pershing has written and lectured extensively on issues related to climate change, international negotiations and environmental policy and has served as a Review Editor for the Third Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
