Washington D.C. Green Building Standard for Private Commercial Buildings
On December 5, 2006, the Washington, D.C. City Council passed Bill #16-515, which establishes green building standards for all privately owned commercial buildings over 50,000 square feet. All new construction or major renovation projects that first apply for permits after January 1, 2009, must submit a checklist describing green features. All new construction and major renovation projects initiated after January 1, 2010 must meet the LEED Certified standard.
